WAITING – It’s All About HIM, not Me – Intro Lesson 2 – Sept. 25 – Oct. 2

What would you say are your biggest worries? Are there concerns that plague your mind in the middle of the night or keep you from focusing well on your work? Surveys generally agree that the most common worries of Americans include getting old, financial issues and the future, fitness and weight, relational issues, and fatigue or health. What and who do you think about when you have quiet moments of reflection? It is often when we are waiting for information or a solution to a dilemma or for others to make a decision that worry creeps in our minds and hearts.

Do you think that there is an alternative to living captive to our worries and concerns? Andrew Murray, a well known pastor and writer in the late 1800’s, tells us that “If any are inclined to despond, because they do not have such patience, let them be of good courage. It is in the course of our feeble and very imperfect waiting that God Himself, by His hidden power, strengthens us and works out in us the patience of the great saints, the patience of Christ Himself.” The very same truth, Murray suggests, can be found in Romans 12: 2.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)  What do you think might change or happen if you decided to turn your greatest anxiety into an active anticipation of the things that God has planned for you and those whom you love? After all, He is the only One who knows the future!
