How many minutes a day do you spend waiting for something to happen? It can be just a minute or 2 as you wait for the hot water to come to your faucet or to boil in your teapot or it can be hours as you wait on the phone for a real person to give you an answer to your question or a traffic delay. Experts estimate that in any given day, people average from 45 to 62 minutes waiting. Would you agree that unexpected interruptions, poor service, long lines, and other surprise or inconvenient delays often bring out aspects of our personalities which we do not admire? Sometimes these waiting periods can feel endless and sometimes seem hopeless.
However, there is one kind of waiting that is always productive and always brings valuable results. It requires a quiet spirit of trust and a humble willingness to accept reality. It brings with it a sense of hope and optimism. It is not a passive response to the circumstances of life. As Joni Eareckson Tada said, “The times we find ourselves having to wait on others may be the perfect opportunities to train ourselves to ‘wait on the Lord’. It can be an active anticipation believing there is a plan and a purpose behind all that happens to those who are willing to “wait on the Lord”.
God’s promises are amazing for those who take seriously His call for us to learn to “wait on Him”. You’ll be encouraged and inspired this week as you read some of the many Bible verses reminding you what God has in mind for all those who are willing to look for “God’s Yellow Lights” – willing to seeking His agenda for life – every hour and every day.
