Change is inevitable, isn’t it? Sometimes it is welcome and exciting. At other times it is disappointing and painful. It can be a huge stimulus to personal growth and bring new relationships with it or it can bring on times of grief and loss. Often we look forward to and plan our lives around changes that we either want to make or will be coming our way, but it seems that the older one gets, the more often we pass through unexpected times when change descends upon us like a thunder storm. Whatever the changes may feel like to a person, there are always decisions that have to be made and in the process questions that may be difficult to answer.
Perhaps the transitory nature of mankind is exactly the reason that throughout Scripture God reassures His children that He is the changeless One. His love is unending and without limits. His goodness is as trustworthy today as it was in the beginning of time. His faithfulness is new every morning and it always will be. As the writer of Hebrews wrote, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Somehow it is in this reality that you and I can find the courage to face the changes that come into our lives. We can let go of our desire to control things knowing our loving and good and faithful God is not surprised by the events that so easily can overwhelm us. We can find hope and peace in His faithfulness as our Heavenly Father and our Redeemer.
It makes you want to sing, “Great is Your faithfulness, oh, God, my Father. There is no shadow of turning with You. You do not change. Your compassions never fail. As You have been, You forever will be. Great is Your faithfulness, Lord, unto me. Amen!”
