How healthy is your heart? These days it seems that this is a major concern for everyone. Exercise. Eat right. Watch your blood pressure and cholesterol. However, we have more than a “physical heart” which God wants us to guard. Over 800 times in the Old Testament the word “heart” is used to describe that “inward place that only God sees”. In Proverbs 4: 23 , we are given the following wise advice, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life”.
You are invited to “study together with us” this fall as we look at the Old Testament Book of Deuteronomy. When Moses gave these instructions to the Israelites just before they entered the Promised Land, he made it clear to the people that their success or failure, their victories or defeat, and their joy or anguish would be directly related to the condition of their hearts. Has anything really changed?
Exploring this counsel given so long ago is still a great way to help you and me understand the God who longs for us to love Him with our whole heart and to grasp the completeness of His mercy and love for us, along with His deep desire to bless us.
